Miami, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center, Miami, after a sudden illness. He was 76. Mr. Potts was born Jan 29, 1924, at Miami, to Richard Henry Potts and Mary Elizabeth Morse Potts. He lived in Miami all of his life. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for Eagle-Picher Mining Company from 1943 to 1952, the Miami Cheese plant from 1952 to 1955, Ottawa county District No. 2 from 1955 to 1975, and the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority from 1975 to his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the Miami American Legion Post, Miami Lodge No. 140 A.F and A.M., the Tulsa Scottish Rite Consistory, and was a member of Southeast Baptist Church, Commerce Oklahoma. He married Billie Marie Brewster on March 13, 1943, in Miami. She survives, of the home. Additional survivors include a son and his wife, Jim Potts and Carolyn Potts, Wyandotte Oklahoma; three brothers and their wives, Richard Potts and Lareeta Potts, Eufaula Oklahoma, Don Potts and Alice Potts, Wichita Kansas, and Bobby Joe Potts and Jeanie Potts, Kingman Arizona; three grandsons and their wives, Brad Potts and Tammie Potts, Midland Texas, Matt Potts and Angie Potts, Lubbock Texas, and Bryan Neal Potts, Alexandria Louisiana; and two great-granddaughters, Lauren Potts and Megan Potts, Midland. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Evelyn Hale; two infant brothers; and an infant grandson, Michael Aaron. The service is 10 a.m. Monday, at the Paul Thomas funeral home chapel, Miami, with the Rev. Jerry Von Moss officiating. The military rites will be conducted by the NEO Veterans Funeral Detail. Masonic rites will be conducted by the Miami Lodge No. 140 A.F. and A.M. The pallbearers are Steve Parnell, Mo Moyer, Jerry Ketcher, Jesse McKibbons, Arnold Cullison, and Bob Gardner. Honorary pallbearers are Wilbur Ball, Jake King, Bob Edwards, Sam Cook, Claud Robison, Joe Cook Jr., and Clarence Clemmons. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home. Burial is in G.A.R. cemetery, Miami.
