69 year old Spanish-American War veteran, died at 6:30 o'clock Tuesday night at his home on D street southeast, Miami. he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Martha Hammerberg; his step-mother, Mrs. Mary Hammerberg of Beverly Hills California; two half-brothers, Jim Hammerberg and Lyn Hammerberg of Beverly Hills California; one half-sister, Mrs. Anna Tharpmarton, also of Beverly Hills. funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the chapel of the Cooper undertaking company. the Rev. Leslie Moore will officiate. the IOOF lodge will also participate in the rites. Burial will be in the G.A.R. cemetery under the direction of the Cooper undertaking company. Hammerberg was a private in Company L of the Forty-ninth Iowa volunteer infantry. he went with his company to Cuba in May 1898, and served to the end of the war. Members of the IOOF lodge will act as pallbearers at the services and honorary pallbearers will be Spanish-American War veterans.
