Bradbury, Earl Austin


Abstract Data

The body of Private First Class Earl Austin Bradbury, former Picher Oklahoma resident, who was killed May 31, 1945, while serving with the First Marine division on Okinawa, will arrive in Miami Thursday for final rites and re-burial. Bradbury was born and reared in Picher and was graduated from the high school there. He entered service in Mar 1943, and had been overseas one and one-half years at the time of his death. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Daphne Bradbury of Picher; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Uyles Bradbury, Picher; three brothers, Ray Bradbury of North Miami Oklahoma, and Clyde Bradbury and Sam Bradbury, both of Picher; two sisters, Mrs. Vera Porter, Miami, Arizonan and Mrs. June Tynon, Afton Oklahoma; a step-son, Jack Davis, Picher, and his grandmother, Mrs. Sam Bradburg, Picher. Bradbury was awarded the Purple Heart, Asiatic Pacific theater ribbon, the Victory medal and the Bronze citation. His body will be accompanied from Miami to Picher by the American Legion post of Picher. Funeral services are incomplete, will be held at Picher. Arrangements will be announced by the Goodson funeral home.

Funeral services for Pfc Earl Austin Bradbury, former Picher resident who lost his life while fighting against Japanese forces in World War II, will be held in the Union church at Picher at 2 pm, Monday. The Rev. J. H. Mott will officiate. Pallbearers will be Lyndon Scott, Austin Keithley, Leonard Brown, Leo Hewitt, Basil Meeks, Bill Whipkey, Clinton Harper and C. M. Heatherly. Burial will be in G.A.R. cemetery at Miami, under direction of the Goodson funeral home.
