35 years old, died at his home, 209 Ethel Street, Picher Oklahoma, from smallpox at 7 o'clock Sunday morning. So far as reported, his case was the only one in Ottawa county Oklahoma where smallpox had made its appearance. The disease was of the black variety and said to have been one of the most malignant types. The case came under the observation of Dr. J. T. Wharton, county physician, who gave his personal attention to taking measures to prevent the spread of the disease. Funeral formalities were omitted and the body was buried privately in a Miami cemetery Sunday night. York was a miner. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Louise York.
