Abstract Data

Troy Wood, 29 years old, ended his life shortly before 8 o'clock this morning by shooting himself with a .44 caliber revolver at his home, 407 South Francis Street, Picher. Death was instantaneous, the bullet entering the right temple piercing the brain and coming out just above the left ear. The suicide was witnessed by Wood's wife, who according to officers investigating the tragedy, indicated that lack of regular employment was responsible for despondency causing Wood to end his life. The shooting occurred in the front room of the Wood home, where Wood and his wife, were reported to have been seated and talking several minutes following eating breakfast. Wood, who was said to be seated on a cedar chest, unexpectedly took his revolver from beneath a pillow lying on the cedar chest, arose to his feet and fired. Mrs. Wood, who was seated on a divan at the opposite side of the room, ran outside crying for help. Will Simmons, a neighbor, rushed to the Wood home, where Wood's lifeless body lay in a pool of blood on the front room floor. A Todd ambulance was summoned and Wood was rushed to Picher hospital, where examination by hospital physicians revealed that he had been dead for some minutes. The body was taken to the Todd undertaking establishment of Picher. Wood had lived here a number of years, coming to Picher from Flipin Arkansas. Surviving relatives include his wife, Mrs. Donna Wood, his father, Howard Wood of Flippin; a brother, George Wood of Wewoka Oklahoma, and other relatives whose names were not available shortly before noon today. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
