Funeral services for Virgil B. Pete' Williams, 65 year old miner, who died at 10:35 Wednesday night at his home, 712 Garfield Avenue, Baxter Springs Kansas, were held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Fifth Street Mission in Baxter Springs. The Rev. B. F. Clark, pastor, officiated. Mr. Williams' death followed an illness of three month's duration. He was born at Lawson Missouri and came to Baxter Springs, 25 years ago. He had worked as a miner for many years. He was married to Mrs. Eula Cole, Dec 4, 1943. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Merrill, Galena Kansas Route 2. Five step-daughters, Juanita Bensley, Mrs. V. J. Bernard, Jennie L. Leech, Mary Frances Shellenbarger and DeEtta Cole; four step-sons, Ed Cole, James Cole, George Cole and David Cole; three sisters, Mrs. W. K. Workman, Mrs. Maude Welsh and Mrs. Fannie Burkhart; and three brothers, John Williams, Ira Williams and George Williams. Burial was in the Lowell Kansas cemetery, under the direction of the Hoskins-Wene funeral home.
