Quapaw Oklahoma. Harry Whitebird, one of the most prominent Indians in Ottawa county Oklahoma, died from tuberculosis at his residence in Quapaw at 9 o'clock Sunday night after an illness of several weeks which was not regarded as serious until last week. Whitebird is survived by a wife, and son, Robert Whitebird, six years old, one stepson and a granddaughter. Harry Whitebird, was a Quapaw Indian, 44 years old. His property interest include one half interest in the James J. Whitebird addition of 236 acres to Picher Oklahoma, several pieces of land bringing royalties from mines and a nice residence in Quapaw. The Estes-Hicks Realty Company of Picher held his power of attorney for a period and was lately succeeded as his agent by Mrs. Mayme Tyler, city treasurer of Picher. It is understood that he left a will and the family will seek the appointment of J. A. DeVillier, mayor of Quapaw, as executor. The body was taken in charge by the Hocker undertaking company of Picher. Funeral services will be conducted under Protestant rites at the residence Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock and burial will be in a beautiful site in the yard at the home. Many tribal customs will be eliminated at the funeral, although a large gathering of Indians is expected to attend.
