It seems that a certain mill bookkeeper's popularity has grown with such leaps and bounds that it is necessary for him to keep his public informed at all times as to his whereabouts. When a person visits the office and finds it locked up, there is not note around any place to tell where the boss-man has gone or when he will return. Instead of that, the caller is confronted with a big, bold sign which reads, "Al will be back soon." In case the caller waits for Al to return, he must first greet Al with a fetching smile, admire Al's new pooch, allow the animal to chew on his shoes, and tell Al that it is quite the proper type of dog, before he may venture a meager, "Are you expecting the boss back soon?" by the time Al answers the caller has become so accustomed to the pup-smell of the office that he may take an easy chair and await the return o the boss undisturbed except for an occasional "Yap! Yap!" and the continual tugging at his shoe-strings. By this time you have probably guessed the fact that Santa Claus, brought Al a dog for Christmas. Al says the pup's mother was a thoroughbred and that he has a long string of canceled railroad tickets that belonged to the pup's father. In case you have any old shoes you want to get rid of, you might mail them to Albert White, Box 35, Picher Oklahoma. You understand! One pair of shoes don't last this pooch long.
