age 82, died at Meriden Christ Nursing home, Wichita Kansas, after suffering for several years with Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's. Born Oct 29, 1918, in Chitwood Missouri, to Haywood Washom and Minnie Wilkinson Washom. He lived in Baxter Springs Kansas for more than 50 years before moving to Wichita a year ago. He worked in the lead and zinc mines in the Treece Kansas and Picher Oklahoma fields; King Louie International Inc., Baxter Springs; Dean Nigh Service Station, Baxter; and retired in 1981 from McCartney Manufacturing Company, Baxter. He was a member of the first Baptist church, Baxter, and an avid golfer. Married Alice Nell Truesdell on Apr 17, 1943. She preceded him in death on Feb 7, 1999. He was also preceded in death by a daughter Frances Schooley; a brother, William Washom; and a sister, Opal McLean. Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Judy Nelson and Ken Nelson, Wichita Kansas; two sons, Gale Washom, Galena Kansas and Harold Lee Washom, Papillion Nebraska; a son-in-law, Jim Schooley, Baxter Springs; two brothers, Paul Washom, Redland California, and Don Washom, Woofford California; two sisters, Viola Noland, Kansas City Missouri, and Lucile Pliler, Vackerville California; two grandchildren, Alan Potter, Jenks Oklahoma and Lisa Potter Savage, Riverton Kansas; and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Savage, Riverton. Derfel's funeral home, Baxter Springs Kansas. Burial in Baxter cemetery.
