Wampler, P. G.

Abstract Data

Because he was found to be suffering with tuberculosis in an active stage, P. G. Wampler, 67 years old, Zincville Oklahoma, was released late Wednesday afternoon from the county jail where he was serving a sentence for violation of the liquor laws. Wampler obtained his freedom on a writ of habeas corpus by Judge J. J. Smith in the district court. Dr. W. B. Smith, county health officer and jail physician, testified the prisoner was afflicted with the disease. Other testimony showed there was no way to segregate Wampler from other prisoners. Finding that the health of other prisoners was imperiled by Wampler's presence in the jail, Judge Smith signed the writ asked. Wampler was committed to jail Oct 18 after the criminal court of appeals had affirmed his conviction. He was sentenced to serve 30 days and pay a fine of $250. He had completed the jail sentence and was serving out the fine.
