26 year old Columbus Kansas, miner was fatally injured at Picher Oklahoma today when a car he was driving struck the bumper of a truck at an intersection and overturned three times. Miss Opal Sketch, about 23, of Picher, an occupant of the Wade car, received minor injuries, lacerations on the head. A third occupant of the car, a 1936 coach, escaped uninjured. He is Howard McGowan, 23, also of Columbus... Wade, who was thrown through the top of his vehicle, was found lying 40 feet from where the rolling car came to a stop. Rushed to the Picher hospital in an unconscious condition, he died about a minute later, about 4:40 o'clock. Attendants said Wade suffered a crushed head, including a severe fracture at the base of the skull. Bill Michael, who was driving his truck, had two friends, Fred Arbs and Ed Hays, both of Picher, in his vehicle at the time of the mishap. Michael, 53, after investigation was declared "Not guilty of any negligence." ...The parents of the dead youth, who worked in the Picher mining field, came to the death scene about an hour afterwards. The father W. D. Ochsenbein of Columbus, Route 3 investigated the crash. Funeral arrangements for the victim are incomplete. The Todd funeral home is in charge.
