63 year old Picher Oklahoma man and a resident here the past thirty-four years, died at the Picher hospital Friday evening at 10:30, a few minutes after he had suffered a heart attack at the Connell Hotel, Picher. Voyles was a former mayor of Picher and was justice of the peace at the time of his death. He was born April 20, 1888 at Murphy North Carolina, moving to Picher in 1917. He was engaged in mining until 1921, when he was elected as city clerk. He was elected clerk again in 1925. From 1941 to 1945 he served as justice of the peace. In 1945 he was elected mayor and served until 1947. He was again elected justice of the peace in 1940. Survivors include four brothers, Rev. Clarence Voyles of Georgia, Rev. Charles Voyles of West Jefferson, North Carolina, Sam Voyles of San Antonio Texas and Harold Voyles of Kentucky. Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the First Baptist church in Picher with the Rev. C. Bergen officiating. Burial was in the G.A.R. cemetery at Miami, under direction of the Morton-Lundy funeral home. The IOOF lodge, No. 596 was in charge of rites at the grave. Active pallbearers were E. C. Mays, Fred Spoon, Lester Hilliard, Kendrick Medley, Earl Hand and Dude Rowe. Honorary pallbearers were John Messer, D. L. Daily, O. L. Evans, H. O. Green and T. D. Pinky Wood. As a mark of respect to the former mayor, Mayor Wood asked all business houses to close from 2 until 3, during the funeral.
