A hard rock lead and zinc mining man died while on trip to the Idaho field. News of the death of Eli L. Vancil, who was one of the pioneer settlers of the Joplin Missouri district was received by his brother, H. J. Vancil, yesterday. Mr. Vancil dropped dead suddenly at noon, Nov 10, while visiting some mining property in Greenhorn Gulch, near Hailey Idaho, with a party of mining men. News of his death, however, did not reach the brother in Joplin until yesterday. The two brothers and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Setser of San Diego California, were all who survive of the family of eight children. They came to Joplin in 1872. After teaching school three years Eli Vancil took up the work of a mining engineer. Five years after coming here he was married to Miss Temperance Turley. They left Joplin, going to the newly opened ming fields in Idaho. Mrs. Vancil and four daughters, Miss Helen Vancil and Mrs. H. J. McVickers of Ashton Idaho, and Mrs. George Barrett and Miss Etta Vancil of Hailey, and two sons, Fred J. Vancil and Phillip Vancil, of Hailey surviving, Mr. Vancil was 69 years old.
