Robert I. Tuthill, a retired hard rock lead and zinc miner-farmer who resided southwest of Miami on route 3, died at 2:45 pm Sunday in a local nursing home, where he had been a patient for two months. He was 78. Mr. Tuthill, who shoveled the first lead-zinc ore in the Hattonville [ now Commerce] Oklahoma mining area, was a native of Mulberry Kansas. He was born May 24, 1893. Also a former resident of the Lincolnville Oklahoma community, Mr. Tuthill was a past pastor of the Miami Masonic lodge and a member of the Grand Lodge of Oklahoma and First Christian church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Minnie Tuthill; two sons, Scott Tuthill, Olathe Kansas, and Booth Tuthill, Grants New Mexico; a daughter, Mrs. Jane Potter, Tahoe City California; a sister, Mrs. Mary Guthrie, College Park Maryland; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Last rites will be at 2 pm Wednesday at First Christian church with Dr. Russell Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Williams Cole Creek cemetery under the direction of the Cooper funeral home. Masonic graveside services are planned.
