Turner, Frank

Abstract Data

was shot by one of two highwaymen Saturday night at 9:10 o'clock at Picher while walking along the railroad at a point near the Mineral Belt depot. Turner was walking to town from his home near the Cosmos Mine, three-fourths mile east of Picher Oklahoma. As he was nearing the depot he was confronted suddenly by two unmasked men who commanded him to "put em up." Almost instinctively Turner started to resist and was knocked to the ground by a blow from a revolver. He was able to rise to his feet and started to run when one of the men fired a shot which entered Turner's left shoulder and, after penetrating a lung, passed through his body to a point near the heart. The highwaymen did not wait to rob him after the shooting, but turned and fled. Employees at the depot heard the shot and reached Turner soon after the shooting. Todd's ambulance was called and the injured man was taken to the Picher hospital where his condition Monday morning was reported improved. His assailants were described to the police as, one man being tall and wearing a rain coat, the other was said to be low and heavy set and had light hair. No arrests have been made.
