Swalley, John
Abstract Data
We found John Swalley supervising the redecoration of the offices of the Velie-Hocker Mine, yet John still wore his hard-toes shoes. When asked if he was afraid that someone would put a desk down on one of his number 10's he replied that Mr. Banes wouldn't let him stay in the office long enough to get out of the safety shoes. John declared they really were number 10's while "Pretty Near," one of his helpers, said that every time John puts down a foot he takes up 20 inches. "Pretty Near" came by that name because whenever he is told to do a thing, it is "pretty near" done.
