Picher Oklahoma. Fred Surridge, 51, who lives south of the Bird Dog Mine and who is employed as a hoisterman at the mine, received burns on the hands and face early today when a gasoline stove over which he was cooking breakfast exploded. The burns were not believed to be serious, and the victim was expected to be released sometime today from Miami Baptist hospital, where a neighbor took him for treatment. Surridge escaped the small building in which he lived and ran to his automobile. The one-room structure and contents were destroyed by fire that broke out after the explosion. The incident occurred about 6 am.
