Abstract Data

worked for 10 years with the Anna Beaver Mining Company as assistant to Lee L. Fillius, superintendent, died suddenly Monday morning at Eufaula Oklahoma. He had gone to Eufaula about a week ago to look over oil prospects. Mr. Fillius and others are drilling a well in that field and Mr. Staub and Mr. Fillius had been close friends for many years, having first become acquainted in Cripple Creek Colorado. The storm prevented Mr. Staub from getting around the oil field and he started to return to Galena Kansas, Monday morning. He drove his car to the hotel where he had been stopping and someone noticed that he was apparently sick, being slumped down in the seat. Examination showed that he was dead. Since leaving the Anna Beaver Company, Mr. Staub had made his home with George F. Braun at Galena Kansas. Mr. Braun was notified of his death and he and Mr. Fillius went to Eufaula and brought the body back to Galena. Mr. Staub was 62 years old. He was a widower. One sister, Mrs. Emma Gibbs, lives at Boulder Colorado. He was one of the early miners of Colorado. During the Spanish-American War he served with Theodore Roosevelt as one of his rough riders. Funeral services will be held at Galena and the remains buried in the Galena cemetery. Definite date of the services will not be announced until the arrival of a niece from Colorado. Note: See Lee L. Fillius obit on Jan 10, 1944.
