Stapp, Earl
Research Notes: "Every person living in the Tri-State district will feel the damaging effects of the reduction of the tariff on zinc. However, those to be hurt worst are we miners, who earn by daily wage for our part in the production of zinc concentrates. After the slow market of the past year, we miners will not be able to financially withstand further wage reduction and lay-offs. We have been merely getting by so now what will the future hold for us unless those in authority see fit to revoke this dreadful act of theirs." signed by Earl Stapp, hoisterman.
Abstract Data
We believe the record of Earl Stapp, hoisterman at the Barr Mine of the Vinegar Hill Zinc Company is a good one. Earl pulls enough dirt in an eight-hour shift to keep the mill operating three eight-hour shifts. One day about a month ago he pulled 852 cars to the surface, which was approximately 1,278 tons of dirt. His average for the eight-hour shift is 750 cars, or 1,125 tons of dirt. And after a day's work like this Earl never fails to take good care of those cows when he gets home.
