Funeral services for Ben Squires, 50 years old, who died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon at the Big John Mine northwest of Treece, will be conducted at 2 pm Thursday at the Commerce Baptist church. Squires, a resident of Commerce, was employed as a herder at the mine. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Ida Squires; a foster-daughter, Mrs. Horace Warner of Commerce, and two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Stinson of Treece and Mrs. Pearl Reed of Carterville Missouri. The Rev. J. Grover Scales, will officiate at services. Active pallbearers will be Herbert Glenn, Oscar Bailey, North Ritter, Bob Campbell, Alfred Shaffer and Leonard Powell. Honorary pallbearers will be Dewey Berry, Roy Johnson, Ray Ward, Jack Stacey, Delbert Reed and Dick Fraley. Burial will be in Carterville Missouri cemetery under direction of the Cooper funeral home.

Picher Oklahoma age 46, a shoveler at the Big John Mine, three miles northwest of Treece Kansas, died of a heart attack shortly afternoon today. Squires was seized by the attack as he was working underground. A resident of Commerce Oklahoma, Squires is survived by his wife. They have not children.
