The death Sunday of John Lyman Snyder, 39 year old Eagle-Picher Company foreman, marked the second week-end traffic fatality and the ninth of the year in Ottawa county Oklahoma. Snyder, who lived on Miami Route 1, died Sep 21, 1952, at Freeman hospital in Joplin Missouri of injuries received Friday in a two-car crash four and one-half miles north of Miami. Head of the mining company's assaying department at the Central Mill near Cardin Oklahoma, Snyder was fatally hurt when the 1951 Chevrolet coach he was driving overturned after colliding with a 1938 Plymouth pickup truck driven by Harvey Oliver Sharp, 50, of Baxter Springs Kansas, Route 2. Sharp was not badly hurt. Born in Joplin, Snyder had lived in Picher Oklahoma for 15 years before he moved to a farm home, five miles east of Miami, last December. He completed a course in electronics at the Chicago Electrical school after graduating from Picher high school in 1932 and from Northeastern Oklahoma A and M college two years later. Snyder was a past worshipful master of the Ottawa Masonic lodge No. 478. He also was a past worthy patron of the Eastern Star chapter No. 330 in Picher. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Vivian Snyder, of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Snyder, and a sister, Mrs. W. R. Carter, all of Joplin, and two brothers, George Snyder of St. Louis and Joe Q. Snyder of Norman Oklahoma. Funeral services will be conducted at the Methodist church in Picher at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. R. J. Palmer will officiate. Active pallbearers will be Raymond Simmons, Giles Johnson, Harold McLain, Robert Montgomery and Bill Montgomery and Russell Colvin. Honorary pallbearers, all co-workers of Snyder, include: Fred Phelps, Tony Bettega, George Komadina, George Hall, James Cruzan, Norman Barbee, Carroll Allgood, William Asbell, Harold Allen, Clyde Taylor, James Sparlin and Harley Groosman. Burial Sep 23, 1952, will be in G.A.R. cemetery at Miami, under direction of the Thomas funeral home of Picher. Masonic rites will be held at the grave.
