well known Picher Oklahoma hard rock lead and zinc miner, died Dec 6, 1923, age about 50, at Prescott Arizona, yesterday morning, according to a telegram received by the St. Joe Mining Company his former employers. He worked in the Picher district for six years previous to going to Arizona for his health about six months ago. Before coming to Picher, he worked for the same company eight years in the Missouri mining field. He was employed as ground boss. The body is being forwarded to Picher. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, who was with him at the time of his death. He was a member of the Masonic order and was prominent in lodge circles here.

The body of William Newton Smith, who died from lung trouble, will arrive in Picher Sunday morning and will be taken direct to the home of his brother-in-law, T. S. Johnson, residing near the Vinegar Hill Mine. The body will lie in state at the Johnson home until tomorrow afternoon at 2:30, when it will be taken to the First Methodist church. Rev. Glenn E. Tilton, pastor, will conduct the services. Burial will be made in the Miami G.A.R. cemetery. The deceased, besides his wife, Mrs. Hattie Smith, is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Clara Jackson of Galena Kansas, and Mrs. T. S. Johnson of Picher.

The funeral was held from the First Methodist church this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Glenn E. Tilton delivered the funeral sermon. The funeral was under the direction of the N. W. Green undertaking company and burial Dec 11, 1923, was made in the Miami cemetery.

Mrs. Hattie U. Smith, formerly of Picher, died at a California hospital several days ago, according to word received here. She went to California several months ago. Her husband, William N. Smith, a ground foreman at the St. Joe Mine, died in New Mexico from tuberculosis nearly one year ago. Mrs. Smith was a member of the local Eastern star lodge.
