A pioneer hard rock lead and zinc miner of the Tri-State district, died Jun 12, 1934, age 63, at the family home, South Emily Street, Picher Oklahoma, at 9:10 o'clock last night after an illness of 25 months. Smith had been a resident of Picher the last 12 years, during which time he had been engaged as a miner. He was last employed as mill foreman at the Ramage Mine in Douthat Oklahoma, working for the Ramage Mining Company and Mahutska Mine eight years. He was born, Sep 25, 1870 in Perry County Ohio. In his early manhood he left Ohio, going to Kansas and Colorado, where he remained for some time before locating at Carterville Missouri, forty years ago. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Inez Smith; two daughters, Mrs. J. W. Tompkins and Mrs. A. S. Miller, both of Peoria Illinois; three step-sons, Horace Hewett, Chester Hewett and Paul Allen Hewett, at home; one sister, Mrs. John Lyle of Treece Kansas; and one granddaughter, Miss Eloise Miller of Peoria Oklahoma. Funeral rites will be conducted at the Central Methodist church at 1:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon with the pastor, the Rev. C. E. Hoole, officiating. Burial Jun 14, 1934, be at Carterville Missouri. The funeral will be in charge of the Durnil funeral home, Picher.

Funeral rites were conducted at the Central Methodist church at 1:30 o'clock this afternoon with the pastor, the Rev. C. E. Hoole. Pallbearers were: Clyde Johnson, Ed Tyree and Joe Downing of Joplin Missouri, Earl Hand of Douthat Oklahoma and Jack Thompson and Tillas Hunt of Picher. Burial was at Carterville Missouri, a former home of Mr. Smith. The funeral was under direction of the Durnil funeral home, Picher.
