Smith, John R.
Research Notes: Note: Records are difficult to read. Further note of interest in the year 1912: The Missouri Kansas and Texas Railroad shipped more than 575 million pounds of mine tailings from Joplin Missouri in 1912, to be used for railroad ballast. A mining agent calculated the return for re-milling the tailings could have a value of $424,000, but the railroad was not interested in digging up its right of way.
