Tahlequah Oklahoma, died Feb 5, 1997, age 84, from injuries he received in an automobile accident. Mr. Kelsey was born Sep 29, 1912, in Muskogee Oklahoma to Sally Smith and Latham Smith. He married Dorothy Edna McKee on Oct 17, 1937. She preceded him in death on Mar 22, 1995. He moved from Muskogee to the Tri-State area and attended school in Treece Kansas, and high school in Picher Oklahoma. He worked for the Wilbur Mine, Picher, until joining the U. S. Army during World War II. When he returned from the service, he worked for Spencer Chemical Company, Riverton Kansas, from 1945 until 1959. In 1969, he and his wife, moved to Baytown Texas where he worked for Gulf/Chevron Petrochemical Company. He retired in 1967, and he and his wife, moved to Anadarko Oklahoma. In 1988 they moved to Tahlequah. Mr. Smith was a member of the Tahlequah First United Methodist Church. In Picher, he was active in many areas. He was a life member of the American Legion and served as commander of the Picher American Legion Post No. 50, was a member of the Miami American Legion Post, was a member of the Picher United Methodist church, the Ottawa Lodge No. 492, and the Miami Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 107. He also served on the Picher election board. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline Wickliffe and Dennis Wickliffe, Tahlequah; and two grandsons, Kelsey Wickliffe and Kyle Wickliffe, all of Tahlequah. The service will be 10 am, Saturday, Feb 8, in the Paul Thomas funeral home chapel, Miami. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Northeast Oklahoma Veterans funeral details in the G.A.R. cemetery, Miami, under the direction of Paul Thomas funeral home. Pallbearers will be James Smith, Kelsey Wickliffe, Kyle Wickliffe, Ron Sparkman, Dennie Ed McKee, and Jason "Spot" Cawyer. Family will receive from 7 to 8 pm tonight at the Paul Thomas funeral home, Miami.
