Commerce Oklahoma, died at 3:40 am Tuesday, Oct 27, 1998, at the Miami Nursing Center, after a long illness. He was 84. Mr. Smith was born Aug 12, 1914, at Flat Rock to William David Smith and Julia Fairellen Stout Smith and had lived in Commerce for the past 55 years. He married Oleita Shackelford on Jan 19, 1935, in Columbus Kansas. He worked for Eagle-Picher Company mines for 11 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 493. Mr. Smith is preceded in death by four brothers and six sisters. He is survived by his wife, Oleita Smith, of the home; a son, Harley R. Smith, Jr., Imperial Californian; a daughter, Marcia Green, Afton Oklahoma; a sister, June Wyrick, Fairland Oklahoma; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The graveside service will be at 2 pm Friday in the G.A.R. cemetery in Miami, under the direction of the Guilford-Thomas funeral homes, Commerce. John Pierce will officiate.
