Funeral services for E. V. Smith, 58 years old, an engineer for the Lula Bell Mining Company, will be held at 2:30 this afternoon at the First Methodist church in Baxter Springs Kansas with the Rev. C. P. Mills, pastor, officiating. Mr. Smith, who had been ill for five weeks, died at 3:15 Friday afternoon at St. John's hospital in Joplin where he underwent a major operation two weeks ago. He came to Baxter Springs 18 years ago from Webb City Missouri. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Dora Smith; four daughters, Miss Helen Smith of Washington, D.C., and Misses Pearl Smith, Virginia Smith and Dorothea Smith, all of the home; one son, Jack Smith of Baxter Springs; three sisters, Mrs. C. W. Johnson of Baxter Springs, Mrs. George Smith of Webb City and Mrs. Bertha Risman of Tacoma Washington; a brother, Golda Smith of Oklahoma City; and one grandchild. Burial will be in the Baxter Springs cemetery, under the direction of the Hoskins funeral home.
