a resident of the Devil's Promenade Oklahoma vicinity nearly all of her life, was instantly killed at 7 o'clock last Saturday night, and her husband, Buck Slagle, was seriously injured when a Pierce Arrow coupe in which they were riding turned over at a sharp curve 60 miles west of Clovis New Mexico. The Slagles and several friends, who were in another machine, were returning to their home after a deer hunt in the New Mexico mountains. A truck carrying camp equipment and driven by Dutch' Holden was following the Slagle coupe...Mr. Slagle is reported to be suffering from several broken ribs, a broken collarbone and other injures. He managed to crawl from his wrecked machine and back to the road, where he hailed a passing motorists, who took him to a nearby village...The Cooper undertaking company at Miami, is in charge of Mrs. Slagle's body. Mrs. Slagle is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Henry Hoffman of Miami and Mrs. Victor Griffin of the Devil's Promenade, and several grandchildren. Mrs. Slagle was one of the wealthy members of the Quapaw tribe. She was about 70 years old. Mrs. Slagle collected royalties from several lead and zinc mines in the vicinity of Picher. The Eagle-Picher Company operated mines on seven leases in which Mrs. Slagle had interests. The mines on these leases included the Crawfish Mine, Oko Mine, Premier Mine, St. Joe Mine, Vantage Mine, Howe Mine, Swift Mine, Foch Mine, Cosmos Mine, Underwriters Mine, Black Eagle Mine, Jeff City Mine, Commonwealth Mine and Cortez Mine.

Funeral services will be held at the Slagle home at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning. the Rev. E. L. Jorns will officiate. Pallbearers will be Paul Goodeagle, Levi Goodeagle, Arthur Buffalo, Fred Hallam, Harve McKibben and Sam Hoffman, Jr. Indian rites will be observed at 11 o'clock. Victor Griffin, Quapaw chief and a son-in-law of Mrs. Slagle, will be in charge of the Indian service. Burial will be in the home cemetery...Mr. Slagle will be able to make the journey home in about a week. He received several broken ribs, a broken collar bone and other lesser injuries.
