Abstract Data

A pioneer of the Tri-State area mining field, Dewey S. Sims, died unexpectedly at his home, 205 H Street NW, Miami, early Saturday after suffering a heart attack. Mr. Sims had spent his entire adult life actively engaged in the lead and zinc mining industry. For the past 13 years he was in partnership with the late George Potter of Joplin Missouri. They operated the Potter and Sims firm with offices in Joplin Missouri. Prior to 1950, Mr. Sims was associated with the Beck Mining and Royalty Company serving for several years as superintendent of operations. Mr. Sims resided in Baxter Springs Kansas, for 12 years before moving with family to Miami in 1944. He was a native of Diamond Missouri. Death occurred shortly after midnight. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary V. Sims, of the home; two sons, Dean S. Sims, Findly Ohio, and Frank Sims, Tulsa Oklahoma; two daughters, Mrs. Robert E. Nesbitt, Miami, and Mrs. O. C. Beasley, Jr. Iowa City Iowa and 12 grandchildren. Final rites will be held at 10 am Tuesday in the chapel of the Cooper funeral home with the Rev. J. Donald Krythoff, officiating. Active pallbearers will be George Willis Beck, Dick Wills, Charles Banks Wilson; L. M. Torbert, Jr., Mariod Zajic, and Ben Moody. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Hatzell, Ralph Baird, George W. Potter, Jr., Bob Tulhill, Charles Windbigler, Hugh Wright, R. O. Gibson, Harold Fields, John Hinds, Dr. Rex Graham, Bill Shouse, A. W. White and Jack James. Burial will be in G.A.R. cemetery, Miami.
