Longtime prospector J. M. Short of Joplin Missouri struck it rich with several mines in various mining camps. By 1913, he had the two largest producing zinc mines in the United States. His mines were named after famous Indians: the Pocahontas Mine, the Sitting Bull Mine, the Geronimo Mine and the Powhatan Mine.
