Abstract Data

69 years old, of Douthat Oklahoma, a retired millman, was fatally injured and four others were hospitalized, after a pickup truck in which they were riding skidded on a curve near Cardin Oklahoma and overturned about 6 o'clock Monday evening, during the windstorm. Shoemaker, riding the back of the truck, was thrown to the pavement and suffered a head injury. He died a few minutes after arrival at the Miami Baptist hospital... Shoemaker's son, Clarence Shoemaker, 49, of Baxter Springs Kansas was driving the light truck. With them were Mrs. Clarence Shoemaker, James Lee Shoemaker, 14, a grandson of the man killed, and Mrs. Goldie Perry of Douthat, a daughter of the elder Shoemaker. Mrs. Perry may be seriously hurt. The others were not believed to be in serious condition. Other survivors of Shoemaker include four sons, George Shoemaker, of Douthat, Oliver Shoemaker, and Denzel Shoemaker of Picher Oklahoma and Don Shoemaker of Idaho; four daughters, besides Mrs. Perry, Mrs. Nadine Smith and Mrs. Juanita Smith of Picher, Mrs. Mae Nixon of Columbus and Mrs. Callie Crow of Fairland Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
