42 year old operator of the Whiteway Bar in Picher Oklahoma, was found dead, Sunday morning with a bullet through his head. The body was found by two miners en route to work and was found near the old Southern Mine, north of Picher. A coroner's inquest into the case was scheduled for Wednesday night at Columbus Kansas. One officer expressed the belief that it was suicide, and referred to two notes found by the body, indicating he, Sheehan, considered that way the only one out. The bullet entered just back of the right ear, and lodged in the front part of his head. The weapon used was a .38 revolver, which was found near the body. Sheehan was being sought by Picher officers in connection with the robbery of a Picher taxicab driver, Friday night. He was also under bond to appear Tuesday in justice court at Columbus Kansas for the preliminary hearing in connection with the charge of grand larceny involving the alleged theft of mining equipment from the Silver Fox Mine, just south of Baxter Springs Kansas. The case was investigated by Kansas officers, including Sheriff Emmett Sutherland, county attorney, Kent Pount and Coroner Best. Sheehan's address was on East Second Street, Picher. He was born in Granby Missouri, and had lived in this area since 1930. He had operated the Whiteway Bar since 1947. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. May Sheehan of Webb City Missouri; two sons, William Sheehan and Lloyd Sheehan of Oklahoma City Okalhoma, a daughter, Betty Ruth Sheehan of Goodman Missouri; three brothers, Raymond Sheehan of Los Angeles California; Vernon Sheehan of Webb City; and Riley Sheehan of Fort Morgan Colorado; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church in Picher, with the Rev. R. J. Palmer officiating. Pallbearers were Jerry Feezell; Arthur King; Burley Rigg; Gabe McKenie; Ed McGuire and Claude Leslie. Burial was in the G.A.R. cemetery at Miami, under the direction of the Morton Lundy funeral home.
