age 86, Baxter Springs Kansas died Thursday at a Lowell Kansas nursing home. Born Sep 7, 1888 at Exline Iowa. She graduated from an Oklahoma City Oklahoma business college in 1914 and was a stenographer and bookkeeper in the Oklahoma State Senate. Employed by C. Y. Semple, as exporter and grain elevator owner in Oklahoma City Oklahoma, she remained an employee when Mr. Semple moved to the new Picher Oklahoma mining fields in 1918. She became co-owner and office manager of the Early Bird Mine and was married to Mr. Semple. He died in 1959. She operated the Treece Kansas "relief" station and helped feed 500 people. She was Republican national committeewoman from 1952-1964 and served as Kansas Republican committee vice chairman. Instrumental in the building of the Baxter Springs hospital, she served as a member of its board of directors. She was a member of the Presbyterian church, Baxter Garden club, Daughters of the American Confederacy, past regent of the Daughters of the American revolution, past president of the Business and Professional Women's club and past director of the Baxter country club. Survived by two daughters, Mrs. John F. Hayes, Hutchinson Kansas and Mrs. William Meek, Baxter; two step-daughters, Mrs. Gerald Miller of Las Vegas Nevada, and Mrs. Richard T. Austin, Oklahoma City; a sister, Mrs. Josephine Nussbaum, Placerville Californian; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Private services will be held Saturday at 2 pm at the Presbyterian church in Baxter with the Revs. George Ott and Paul Wiand officiating. Burial in the Baxter cemetery under the direction of the Paul Thomas funeral home, Picher Oklahoma. The casket will be closed at all times. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Tucker, Howard Cawyer, Claude Allgood, Manuel Koronis, Ken Warsler and John Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be Ivan Chubb, Carl O'Leary, Dr. L. C.
