C. Y. Semple, a prominent figure for many years in the Tri- State mining field, died at 2 am today at his Ottawa county Oklahoma home three miles south of Baxter Springs Kansas, following a long illness. His home, just across the state line, was on Baxter Springs Route 2. Funeral arrangements and further biographical details will be announced by Schurman funeral home, Baxter Springs. Memorial contributions to the Baxter Youth Center through the First State bank at Baxter, are suggested by the family. Mr. Semple was a native of Mt. Vernon Ohio.

Arrangements were being made by the Schurman funeral home in Baxter today for private rites for C. Y. Semple, who died early Wednesday at his home southwest of Baxter. Mr. Semple, a pioneer in district milling of mine tailings, moved to the Baxter Springs area in 1918. He was widely known for his philanthropic interests, which included help in establishing the Baxter Youth Center. His wife, Mrs. Florence Semple, is Republican national committeewoman from Kansas. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. L. W. Jennings of Columbus Kansas and Mrs. Richard Austin of Oklahoma City; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Williams P. Meek of Baxter Springs and Mrs. John F. Hayes of Hutchinson; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
