His father was an English sea captain and Thomas Rick, when a boy, spent much of his time at sea with his father. When old enough to take up his studies he was entered in the British navy and it was on one of Admiral Nelson's battleship Victor that Rick got his schooling. At the age of 17 he came to this country, and always having had a desire to grow up in the heart of the country, he came west and settled in Galena Kansas, Joplin Missouri and Miami districts. He liked the work and soon was one of the best ground superintendents in the field. In 1906 he took charge of the Mission Mine. Some of the other mines he has superintended are the Emma Gordon Mine, the McConnell Mine, both of Miami and Tar River Oklahoma; the Jay Bird Mine of Commerce Royalty Company, and the Huttig Mine of Hockerville Oklahoma. In 1899 he was married to Sadie Baulch. Besides his widow he leaves eight children, all of Miami. They are Mrs. Dorris Oldham, Will Rick, Thomas Rick, Sadie Rick, Alice Rick, Clyde Rick, Harold Rick and Lloyd George Rick. He was a member of the I. O. O. F., the Rebekah and Yeoman lodges. All three lodges will take part in the funeral services.
