Raouls, George
Research Notes:Picher Oklahoma. Appointment of George Raouls, as acting postmaster of Picher to succeed J. Ellis Haworth, serving as acting postmaster since Jan 2, was reported today by the Associated Press in a news dispatch from Washington. No announcement was made relative to when Raouls will assume his new duties, but such proceedings are expected any day. Raouls was one of 10 applicants for the postmastership, examinations for which were taken five months ago. He was one of the three making the highest grades in the examination, it was learned here recently, the other two being Roy C. Hinds and E. W. Moser. Final selection of the appointee is made through political channels and may be any one of the three applicants making the best record in the civil service examination. Several of the applicants were women. Mr. Raouls is 42 years old and is at preset employed as bookkeeper and salesman at the Babb Machinery Company on North Connell avenue, Picher, which position he was held three years. Previous to his work he was employed by the Childress Lead and Zinc Company as bookkeeper and purchasing agent at the Fort Worth Mine. Raouls recently was elected commander of the Picher post of the American Legion. He has lived in Picher since 1917 and is well known to residents of the district. When interviewed this morning regarding the appointment, Raouls stated that he had not received any official notification regarding the matter. Acting Postmaster Haworth also stated he had not yet been officially notified of the appointment. Note: From personal knowledge. He got the appointment and was a consistently cranky person to everyone that came into the Picher post office.
