--Rev. Wesley Post Dies at Commerce Oklahoma- - -----First Mayor of Picher and Union Church Pastor Many Years, Had been Ill Long Time. The Rev. Wesley Post, 74 year old pioneer minister and retired foreman for the Eagle-Picher Mining and Smelting Company, who in 1915 acted as both the first mayor and first police judge of Picher for the Law and Order League, died at 9 o'clock last night at his home, 400 South River Street, Commerce, following an extended illness. Mr. Post had lived in Commerce since retiring as minister and mining foreman in 1945. Mr. Post, who at one time was perhaps the only full-time minister and miner in the district, was born April 17, 1876, at Charleston Illinois, and came to Picher from Webb City Missouri in 1915. He entered the Methodist church conference at Webb City as a circuit rider in 1911 and later entered the undenominational conference at Blue Mound Kansas. Upon coming to Picher, he was instrumental in having the Eagle-Picher Company build one of the first churches and Sunday schools in the city and was the first. pastor of that church. The church building, which now is the main room of the Union church in Picher, for a time was used during the week as a school. Mr. Post was a member of Masonic lodge No. 478 and Order of the Eastern Star No. 330 here and a Thirty-second degree Mason at McAlester, Oklahoma. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Laura E. Post; two sons, Charles Post of Baxter Springs and Carroll O. Post of Richland; a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Roberts of Kansas City; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The body was received by the Thomas funeral home of Picher.

Picher, Apr 25 Mayor T. D. Wood requests that all business houses close Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock for the funeral hour of the Rev. Wesley Post who was Picher's early day major, police judge and pastor as well as an employee of the Eagle-Picher Mining Company.
