Funeral Home Data
Abstract Data
Despondency over poor health apparently led to the suicide Saturday of Norman A. Pointer, 64 years old Commerce resident whose body was discovered Sunday near Elm Creek, about 2 miles northwest of Commerce. The body, a bullet wound in the head, lay near Pointer's car, and a .45 caliber automatic pistol was found at the scene, according to assistant county attorney Fred Phillips. Phillips and Dr. C. W. Letcher, acting as county medical examiner, conducted the investigation. The body was found by the victim's brother, Lloyd Pointer of Riverton Kansas, and neighbors of the dead man. The neighbors, knowing of Pointer's illness, became concerned when he did not return to his home at 309 south Vine Street, Commerce, Saturday night. Pointer reportedly last had been seen about 11 am Saturday. The body was found about 9:30 am Sunday. Mr. Pointer, who lived alone, had resided in Commerce most of his life. A native of Wesley Arkansas, he was a retired millman, having worked in the area mine field. Besides the brother, he is survived by a half-sister, Mrs. Vivian Barrick, Brooks Oregon.
