1408 Robertson avenue, Carthage Missouri, died at 11:45 am Tuesday, Apr 2, 1996, at McCune-Brooks Hospital, Carthage Missouri, after a short illness. He was 75. He was born Nov 16, 1920, in Baxter Springs Kansas, to Oscar C. Pickering and came to Carthage in 1957. He worked at Eagle-Picher Company, Commerce from 1941 to 1952. He was a truck driver for Hickey Oil company, and Hugh Breeding Trucking, Inc. from 1952 to 1980. He worked as a school bus driver and maintenance man for the Carthage K-9 School system, and as a maintenance man for McCune-Brooks Hospital from 1980 to 1990, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Carthage. He married Effie L. Myers, Oct 24, 1941, in Miami. She survives. Additional survivors include three daughters, Betty L. Newman, Carthage, Deanna Smith, Carthage, and Debra Perdue, Salem Oregon; one son, John A. Pickering, Carthage; one brother Clarence Pickering, Seneca Missouri; three sisters, Lola Hornback, Tulsa Oklahoma, Hazel Smith, Miami, and Darleen Barnett, Seneca Missouri; six grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren. Visitation will be 7 to 8 pm Thursday at the Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Services will be 2 pm, Friday, Apr 5, at the First Assembly of God Church, Carthage with the Rev. Jimmie Hinson and Rev. James Perkins officiating. Burial will be in Park cemetery, Carthage. Memorials may be made to the First Assembly of God Church, Carthage.
