Phillips, Oscar
Abstract Data
Employed in Dallas Texas by F. W. Mike' Evans, pioneer Picher mine operator, who has a contract for excavating a sewage tunnel in the Texas city. Phillips, 45 years old, of Picher was burned, probably fatally, in a rooming house fire at Dallas, just after midnight. Fourteen persons occupied the frame rooming house at Ross Avenue, near Akard. Both injuries from the fire and those caused from Phillips' jump out of the second floor window are responsible for Phillips' critical condition. Mrs. Phillips, Mrs. Evans, and Alvin Wood left early this morning upon receiving a message of the accident. Several other Picher Oklahoma men had gone to Dallas to work for Mr. Evans, and were living in the hotel, but news of their safety has not been received at Picher.

Hugh Lee Phillips, 14 year old son of Mrs. Oscar Phillips, 732 East Second Street was accidentally shot in the right foot Sunday afternoon. With a group of other boys, the youth was playing along the banks of Lytle creek, north of the Oklahoma/Kansas state line, when a frog was eyed by one of the boys. In his excitement to shoot it, a 22. caliber rifle discharged, sending the bullet into Phillips' foot. He was removed to Picher Oklahoma for treatment. Serum was injected to guard against infection. The youth said he wasn't so much disturbed by the fact he missed the frog, but that he couldn't attend school, nor help around home today. The wound is not serious.
