Galena Kansas Jul 3-John Petty, 67 years old, former peace officer, who had served as a deputy sheriff in Cherokee county Kansas and also as chief of police in Galena, died at 9:30 o'clock this morning at his home, 920 Elm Street, following a ten days' illness. Mr. Petty, who was employed as a guard at the bottling house of the Ozark Mountain Distilling company the last three years, had been a resident of this community 50 years. He was born September 5, 1878 in Lawrence county Missouri. Mr. Petty served as deputy sheriff in Cherokee county from 1939 until 1941. He was chief of police in Galena during 1941. Prior to his employment as a peace officer, he worked in the mines for a number of years and also held mining interests. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ada B. Petty of the home; two daughters, Mrs. John Cooper, of Baxter Springs Kansas and Miss Floy Petty of Tulsa Oklahoma; one sister, Mrs. Bert Cutright of Galena, and one grandchild.

Funeral services for John Petty, 67 years old, former peace officer who died Wednesday at his home, 920 Elm Street were conducted this afternoon at the Allison funeral home, with the Rev. W. O. Singleterry of Joplin Missouri in charge. Burial was in Hillcrest cemetery. Mr. Petty, a resident of this community 50 years, served as deputy sheriff in Cherokee county from 1939 to 1941, and was the Galena chief of police during 1941. He had been employed the last three years as a guard at the bottling house of the Ozark Mountain Distilling company. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ada B. Petty of the home; two daughters, Mrs. John Cooper of Baxter Springs and Miss Floy Petty of Tulsa; a sister, Mrs. Bert Cutright of Galena and one grandchild.
