or John Peoples. Efforts to recover the body of John Peoples, who was drowned at Devil's Promenade Wednesday afternoon, have thus far been unsuccessful. The use of a motor boat has been donated by the Berry-Taylor motor company for use in dragging every part of the river. About 350 feet of four foot woven wire was to be stretched across the river at the riffles at a point about 500 yards below where Peoples drowned. It is thought the body may rise today and the woven wire will prevent it from floating down stream

The body of John Peebles, 30 years old, who was drowned in Spring River at Devil's Promenade last Wednesday afternoon, was recovered from the river yesterday afternoon about 3 o'clock near what is known as the Big Knife Ford, located about three miles below where the drowning occurred. The body was discovered by Cleve Bird of Quapaw Oklahoma, a member of the searching party. It was floating near the surface of the water, having lodged in some brush near the river bank. The body was in a badly decomposed condition and beyond identification. A five days' search had been made for the body of the drowned man and all members of the searching party were exhausted from the hard work. The body was taken to Marionville Missouri, this morning by the Todd undertaking company, Picher, for burial. The funeral was held from the First Methodist church at Marionville this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The body was accompanied by Samuel D. Peebles, of near Crane Missouri, father of the dead man; Otis Peebles of Marionville and George Peebles of Crane brothers. Grover H. Todd, who was in charge of the searching party, stated today that in behalf of the drowned man's relatives, especially the widow and three small children, he wished to thank the many persons who assisted in the search of the body. Mr. Todd stated there were many whose names he did not know and that he was taking this means to thank everyone for their part in the work, either by personal effort or the contribution of some needed equipment.
