Treece Kansas, When convinced two months ago that tuberculosis had a fatal hold upon him, John L. Payne, 44 years old, called Grover H. Todd, undertaker, and assigned to him an insurance policy and deed to a cemetery lot, completing his funeral arrangements with the calmness that would accompany a less serious transaction, while he was then bedfast. Payne came here from Webb City and Carterville Missouri, where he had been a miner for 18 years. His last illness started about a year ago and he spent the last two months in bed. He died Mar 4, 1920, age 44, at 10 Thursday morning at the home of his sister, Mrs. Ida Sluttz. He is survived by another sister, Mrs. Mary Lingang of Sapulpa Oklahoma, one daughter, Miss Myrtle Payne of Galena Missouri, and a son who is in the army. Funeral services will be conduced from the chapel of the Todd undertaking company, Picher Oklahoma at 10 Saturday morning. The Rev. Wesley Post will make the funeral address. Burial will be at Neosho Missouri.
