A fight early Sunday morning at a boarding house, in which a woman was said to have attacked her estranged husband with a hatchet, fracturing his skull, sent William W. Oliphant, 31 years old, husband, home in a serious condition and Mrs. Virginia Oliphant, 24, the wife, and Fred Beshear and Ambrose Beshear, brothers, to jail. Oliphant is a miner and lives in the Whitebird addition, Picher Oklahoma. About 1 Sunday morning he and a brother went to 300 South Ella Street, where Mrs. Oliphant has been operating a boarding house since separating from her husband. Leaving his brother outside in a motor car, Oliphant was said to have entered the house. Mrs. Oliphant said he was drunk and that he drew a razor, threatening to kill her. She said she armed herself with a hatchet in self defense and that the Beshear brothers, who room at her place came to her assistance. Oliphant's brother said the disturbance inside the house drew his attention and he entered the house to find the woman striking Oliphant in the head with the hatchet while the Beshear brothers held him. Oliphant's brother said he knocked the Beshear youths down and then took the injured man home. Mrs. Oliphant and the Beshear brothers were arrested several hours later by Roy Jameson, constable. The three were taken to the county jail today. Fred Beshear is 20 and Ambrose Beshear is 18. Both are employed as miners. The Oliphants have one child, who is in the custody of the mother.
