O'Bannon, William Stanton "Billy"

77 years old, former mayor of Miami and retired banker and mine operator, died at his home, 115 A Street northwest, Miami, at 3 p.m. Saturday following a long illness. He had been in failing health for the past five years. During his administration as the city's chief executive, from 1919 to 1921, a widespread paving program was carried out in the residential sections. Mr. O'Bannon was also instrumental in establishing Miami's present library. He was born on the O'Bannon prairie acreage, near Buffalo Missouri, on July 24, 1868. This was the site where his grandfather first settled after moving from Kentucky, long before the outbreak of the Civil War. Mr. O'Bannon later moved to Buffalo where he became engaged in the drug and banking business. On June 13, 1894, he married his present wife, Julia May Tinsley, who survives him. Moving to Miami in 1917, he became interested in the mining business and was connected with the old Miami State bank until 1921. Funeral services for William Stanton 'Billy' O'Bannon, former mayor of Miami who died at his home, 115 A Street northwest, Saturday afternoon, will be conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Cooper funeral home chapel. The Rev. Virgil Walker of Mount Vernon Missouri, and Russell Martin, pastor of the First Christian church, will officiate. Pallbearers will be R. J. Tuthill, J. G. Austin, Warren Beatty, Charles A. Neal, Dr. A. M. Payne and Mayor F. E. Millner. Honorary pallbearers will be R. M. Hale, Clyde Morsey, D. H. Wilson, G. W. Sapp, J. H. Taylor and M. R. Tidwell. Burial will be in G.A.R. cemetery, Miami.
