Newton, Solomon Daniel


Abstract Data

a former Miami resident engaged at one time in Tri-State district mine operations, died today at his Columbus Kansas home. He was 80 years old. Mr. Newton, who had been in ill health several years, was a local mining operator from about 1910 to 1917. From Miami he moved to Parsons, where he started a real estate business and later he acquired farming interests. Surviving him are four sons, Floyd Newton and Fred Newton, both of Miami; Lon Newton of Tulsa Oklahoma and William N. Newton of Parsons Kansas; two daughters, Mrs. Charles Neal of Tulsa and Mrs. Fred Wilson, Jr., of Newark New Jersey; three sisters, one of whom is Mrs. Perilee Turner of Miami; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One son, John Newton, preceded the former mining operator in death by several years. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Funeral services for S. D. Newton, 80 years old, former Miamian who died yesterday at Columbus Kansas, will be held at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Rulin funeral home in Columbus. Besides survivors listed yesterday, Mr. Newton leaves his wife. Burial will be in the Columbus cemetery.
