Baxter Springs Kansas. A photo. Myers, age 73, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Freeman-West Hospital in Joplin Missouri after an illness. Born Apr 14, 1928, in Galena Kansas, the son of Jacob A. Myers and Thelma L. Griggory Myers. He had lived in this area all his life. He graduated from Baxter High School with the class of 1947. Mr. Myers had worked in the lead and zinc mines in the Baxter/Picher Oklahoma fields and then retired in 1985 from B. F. Goodrich in Miami Oklahoma. He was a member of the N.R.A. the Kansas Trappers Association, an original member of the "Wiz Kids Baseball Team' and had played baseball with Mickey Mantle and others. He was a dedicated sportsman and outdoors man who loved bow hunting and fishing. He has served as a mentor to several youngsters who were interested in becoming hunters and fisherman. Myers and Eleanor Wagner were united in marriage on Nov 29, 1947 in Riverton Kansas. She survives of the home. Survivors also include a son and daughter-in-law, Michael Myers and Nancy Myers of Baxter; seven daughters and sons-in-law, Myonza Gray and John Gray of Kansas City Missouri, Teresa McLean and Tom McLean of McCune Kansas, Roberta Myers of Keizer Oregon, Tracy Qualls and Larry Qualls, Marilyn Taber and Brian Taber, Joy Crockett and Dino Crockett, all of Baxter, and Margaret Morrison and Paul Morrison of Lander Wyoming; son-in-law, John Brockway of Ottawa Kansas; a sister, Rayma J. Mische of Washington Missouri; 23 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A daughter, Eleanor June Brockway preceded him in death on Dec 26, 2000. Mr. Myers has been cremated. Derfelt's funeral home, Baxter Springs.
