Funeral services for Moreland, 42 years old, of the Quaker Valley district, north of Baxter Springs Kansas, were held at 2 Friday afternoon at the First Christian church in Baxter Springs. The Rev. E. M. Wheatley, pastor, was in charge of the services. Burial was in the Lowell Kansas cemetery, under the direction of the Hoskins-Wene funeral home. Mr. Moreland died at 6:30 Thursday morning at St. John's hospital in Joplin Missouri. His death was attributed to a heart ailment. While Mr. Moreland was employed at the Wade Mine as hoisterman, his hand became caught in the gears of the hoist Aug 15th and amputation was necessary. He was born in southwest Missouri and had lived in Cherokee county Kansas most of his life. Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. John Ram of Tennessee Prairie, east of Baxter Springs, Mrs. George Hulvey of Galena Kansas, Mrs. Charles Yaden of Crestline, Mrs. Elmer Hill of Neutra and Mrs. Dan Newby and Mrs. Raymond Roark of Columbus Kansas; three sons, Ralph Moreland of Baxter Springs, Arthur Moreland of Cave-In Rock Illinois, and Ava L. Moreland of Quaker Valley; 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
