age 57, lifelong Miami resident died early this morning at Miami Baptist hospital following a throat infection. Merriss had been employed as a bookkeeper at the Beck Mining and Royalty Company for 30 years. He was the son of the late W. W. Merriss, first U. S. Marshall assigned to Indian Territory. Surviving are two sons, Paul Merriss, U.S. Navy, Fugate Idaho, and Charles Merriss, Montebello California; a step-daughter, Mrs. Forrest Young, Picher; a step-son, Glenn Brown, Oakland California; a brother, John Merriss, and a sister, Mrs. H. C. Rocker, both of Lindsay California. Funeral arrangements are to be announced by the Lane funeral home.

Funeral services are to be held Tuesday at 2:30 pm. Besides the survivors listed Friday; they include Mrs. Hazel Merriss, his wife, whose name was inadvertently omitted. The Rev. H. W. Curtis will officiate at the services to be held at the Presbyterian church. Fellow employees of the Beck Mining and Royalty Company will serve as pallbearers. The body of Mr. Merriss will lie in state at the Lane chapel until the hour of the services. Burial will be in G.A.R. cemetery, Miami, under the direction of the Lane funeral home.
