Mayes, John D.

John D. Mayes, 82, of Welch Oklahoma, died at Brooks hospital at 6 pm Sunday. A former Miami resident, Mr. Mayes was a retired miner. He was a member of the Masonic lodge and First Baptist church in Welch. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Anna Mayes, Newberry Park California; four sons, Clifford Mayes of Welch, Willard Mayes, San Francisco California, Michael Mayes, Savannah Mayes, Georgia Mayes, and William F. Mayes, Washington Missouri; a daughter, Mrs. Clell Turner, Newberry Park; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Final rites will be held at 2 pm Tuesday at the Welch Baptist church with Rev. Harold Neal officiating. Masonic will be pallbearers and will conduct graveside rites. Burial will be in the Welch cemetery under the direction of the Cooper funeral home of Miami.
